Home Maintenance Scheduler App
For our final group project we built a home maintenance scheduler app. This was my idea and a passion project that I began working on in September 2023. It was designed with the goal of giving users a tool to schedule and track maintenance for their home.

My Role
I was responsible for coming up with the below initial idea for the app and the name Honey Due. I created the usability test plan, performed the competitor analysis, wrote the problem statement and the value proposition, and the initial paper prototype. I also managed my teams efforts through trello board and creating the case study. I collaborated with my team on user research, information architecture, brainstorming, lo-fi and hi-fi prototype, style elements, and coding the desktop homepage.

User Research
As a group we interviewed potential users. We performed in person interviews and created a google survey. The results illustrated the fact that most people in our potential user group of homeowners did not have a method for tracking and scheduling home maintenance.

Problem Statement
My idea was for this to be a mobile first platform for users to easily access. I wrote the below problem statement based on the insight from our user research that unexpected expences are often caused by overlooked maintenance.

Value Proposition
Competitor analysis showed cluttered websites that were not easy to navigate and mobile apps that were an afterthought missing a full suite of features. This was the basis for our ideation and brainstorming. Our goal was to design a mobile first app that empowered homeowners to manage household maintenance, minimize unexpected expenses, and prevent overlooked maintenance. This is what our value proposition was based on.

Paper Prototype
I created the initial paper prototype based on a very basic user flow. We quickly realized that we would need to elaborate on it to incorporate the full suite of features we wanted to include. Below are the initial frames.

Hi-Fi Prototype
After performing usability tests and reiterating our user flow, we created the hi-fi prototype. We realized upon testing color accessibility that the menu bar did not pass. We made iterations to assure we passed.

Summary
The main challenge in this project was creating an app that was simple and intuitive while balancing all the features we wanted to include. Creating a mobile first platform was our goal. I believe this is a tangible and useful idea, and I was proud that my team agreed. I learned that it is important to pay attention to accessibility and that an app is an ever-changing entity that need continuous support to remain successful and relevant.
