Government UI Redesign

My team was tasked with improving the efficiency and functionality of the USDA.gov website.

My Role

I was responsible for writing the below new mission statement, the usability test, creating the moodboard, and the hi-fi mockup. I also managed my teams efforts through trello board and creating the case study. I collaborated with my team on user research, lo-fi prototype, information architecture, and brainstorming .

Usability Test Plan/Results

I created our usability test using the user path we defined on the basis that the user is a farmer looking to apply for an operating loan. The results showed us that there were issues with navigation.

Moodboard

I created our moodboard based on UI samples and inspiration from websites that are functional and user friendly, UI patterns that are simple and sleek, and government agency inspiration that is related to the farm industry.

Hi-Fi Mockup

I based our hi-fi prototype on the idea that we wanted to improve user flow. The word heavy website was not easy to navigate, and created issues with users finding the information they sought.

Summary

The main challenge in this project was to improve the functionality of the USDA.gov website. We discovered that the user interface was creating issues with user flow. Our solution was to simplify the menu and overall aesthetic of the site to create a better experience for the users.
